ELECTRICITY IS CURRENCY

A “unit” of electricity on your monthly bill refers to a kilowatt-hour (kWh). It measures total energy consumption: using a 1,000-watt appliance (like a space heater) for one hour consumes exactly 1 unit of electricity.

Electricity involves several other distinct units, depending on what you are measuring:

• Watt (W) / Kilowatt (kW): Measures power (how fast an appliance uses electricity). A kilowatt is 1,000 watts.

• Ampere (Amp or A): Measures electric current (the rate at which electrons flow through a wire).

• Volt (V): Measures voltage or electric potential (the pressure that pushes electricity through a circuit).

• Ohm (Ω): Measures electrical resistance (how much a material resists the flow of current).
